About this item
A 9cm hand-hammered bowl, bright and quick to speak, and the easiest one here to actually play. Comes with a cushion and a wooden striker.
Hammered, not cast. A cast bowl is poured into a mould and every one sounds the same; a hammered bowl is beaten out by hand over days, which is why the wall thickness varies slightly, why you can see the hammer marks, and why each one has its own pitch. I cannot tell you what note yours will be until you have heard it.
To play it: rest it on the cushion, hold the striker like a pen, and run it slowly round the outside rim with gentle, even pressure. It will take a few laps before it sings. Pressing harder makes it rattle, not louder.
Small enough to hold in your palm if you prefer that, which changes the sound completely.
