About this item
Steamed parcels of rice-flour dough with chaku — hardened sugarcane molasses — and sesame inside, pinched into a fig shape by hand. Newar, and traditionally made at Yomari Punhi in the winter.
There are never very many, because each one is shaped individually and the shaping is the slow part. Four to a portion.
Eat them warm. If you are collecting them for later, steam them again for five minutes rather than microwaving, which turns the dough to rubber. The filling holds heat far longer than the outside does, so give the first one a moment.
Contains rice flour, sesame and sugarcane molasses.
