About this item
Rahar — toor, arhar, split pigeon pea — is the yellow dal you get in every Nepali restaurant in Germany, and the one many Terai families cook daily. It takes longer than masoor, forty minutes or so, and a pressure cooker helps; it comes out thicker and slightly sweet. Good with a tempering of mustard oil, cumin and dried red chilli. Unoiled, so it does not need rinsing three times before it stops feeling greasy.
